Command & Conquer / Red Alert series: Not very micro/macro intensive, and more casual than Starcraft. Lots of fun custom maps available if you're bored. Warcraft 3: Very micro intensive, because of the focus on unit/hero abilities and the limited amount of units available to the player at any one time. Starcraft: Arguably the best and most balanced RTS game to date, although some people dislike it because of its micro/macro intensity. Warhammer Online and LOTR Online are alright, but are not as popular as the above. Guild Wars (great for newbs and experts alike, although not a true MMO) EVE Online (also not very beginner friendly) Lineage 2 (not as beginner friendly and streamlined as WoW) Out of those three genres there are several games that stand out from the crowd by about a mile, those are: With that out of the way, I'll go a little more in depth:īasically, the only genres of games that should be played on a PC are MMO, RTS and FPS (FPS is debatable, since some people prefer controllers over mouse+keyboard combo, although not all the FPS greats are available on consoles, see below). I don't know anything about commodore and apple, but as far as windows and macs are concerned you can't go wrong with any game made by Blizzard.Īll of them are AAA+ titles and both PC and Mac compatible.
